Using The Barcode Module

The Barcode module is designed to speed up regularly performed actions by using barcode scanners on Equipment in the Warehouse. Using Barcode, you can assign specific actions to multiple pieces of Equipment at once, such as adding to Inventory, transferring between Warehouses, or setting Warehouse Action status'. This module can auto-generate and attach scanned items using the Equipment Catalog records. Utilizing this system can speed up Inventory audits and manage a Warehouse in general.

Your Organization must also configure the Barcode Scanner App to integrate with PCR-360. Please see our list of compatible devices for use with the Scanner App.

The Barcode Transactions Grid

Barcode Transactions Grid

The Barcode Transactions grid is a read-only grid that shows what type of Barcode Scans have occurred from the Barcode API Endpoint. Barcode Scanning replicates much of the functionality available within Inventory Overview and Warehouse Actions.

Barcode information is stored on the Equipment Catalog (Main > Catalogs > Equipment) for the Equipment expected to be scanned.

If a Transaction is part of a Batch, a User can select the Transaction and click on the

button to view all Batch details, much like on the Barcode Batches grid.

Types of Statuses

  1. Pending - The Barcode Scan was read and pending processing.

  2. Processed - The Barcode Scan was processed successfully.

  3. Error - The Barcode Scan encountered an error while being processed.

    • Only Error Messages will have a Status Message:

      1. Unknown transaction type - The Application did not recognize the message received by the scanner.

      2. Failed to complete equipment - The Application could not Complete the Equipment.

      3. Failed to pickup equipment - The Application could not Pick Up the Equipment.

      4. Failed to stage equipment - The Application could not Stage the Equipment.

Transaction Types

  1. sd_eqp_status - The status of Equipment on a Service Desk Item was updated.

  2. whs_bulk_add - Equipment is being Bulk Added to a Warehouse.

  3. whs_bulk_transfer - Equipment is being Bulk Transferred from a Warehouse.

  4. po_receive - Equipment is being received from a Purchase Order

  5. whs_physical_inventory - Allows Equipment in Inventory to be audited for accuracy.

  6. batch - While not a Transaction Type, Users can transmit a collection of different Transactions as a single, grouped call.

Additional Barcode Functionality

In addition to Inventory Management, the Barcode Module offers some other quality-of-life features.

Additional Barcode Functionality

In addition to Inventory Management, the Barcode Module offers some other quality-of-life features.

Barcode Generator

From the Main > Catalog > Equipment menu option, Users can generate Barcodes from the Equipment Catalog grid.

The Barcode Generator is a useful tool for Organizations to create their own Barcodes and allows them to use a screen capturing or similar tool to copy the generated Barcode and either print them off or share them in some other fashion. It is NOT recommended to use the Barcode Generator to turn secure information into a Barcode because the plain text of the input is displayed below the Barcode.

To generate a Barcode, a User must navigate to the Equipment Catalog gid and click the

button. This will open the Barcode Generator form.

Barcode Generator Form

From this form, all the User needs to do is enter the desired value of the Barcode, and then click off of the text input field or hit the Enter button on their keyboard. PCR-360 will then take the typed in text and convert it into a visual Barcode.

Barcode Tabs

For records where Barcodes would be related to an item, PCR-360 provides a new tab, so that a User can scan a Barcode, without needing to print off the associated Barcode. These records are:

  1. Equipment Catalogs

  2. Warehouses

  3. Equipment Records

  4. Purchase Orders

  5. API Keys

  6.  Service Desk (SO, WO, IN)

Barcode Report

Users are also able to generate a Report with the various barcodes associated with a group of records. This button is available on the Equipment Catalog Grid, the Warehouse Grid, the Warehouse Actions Grid, the Equipment Grid, the Purchase Order Grid, the API Keys Grid, and the Service Desk Grids for Service Orders, Work Orders and Incidents.

To generate this Report, a User only needs to select the desired records from the associated grid, and then click the

 button.
