Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) will capture events from network device(s). It is used for collecting information used on a form and configuring, network devices, such as servers, printers, hubs, switches, and routers. PCR-360 can listen for SNMP Events and set up automatic Notifications and Escalations according the User or organizational needs. Currently PCR-360 supports both SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c. There is no support for SNMPv3 at this point in time.

Events

This section allows an Administrator to manage their SNMP listening events in a intuitive way rather than the typical Trap information. By adding an Event the user can access it elsewhere in PCR-360. An example of this might be to automatically generate a Service Desk Incident based on a device being unplugged from the network.

Add

1. Click the Add button.
2. The Add New SNMP Events form will open.
   
3. Enter a name. This name is what will be reflected in the Events grid.
4. Enter the Vendor that is related the the Event.
5. Enter the Trap Identifier. If you don't know the Trap Identifier, you can trigger the Trap and find the Trap Identifier as the most recent created item in the SNMP Log .
6. Click Save

Edit Selected

From the Manage SNMP Events the User can add multiple Events simply by clicking 'Save New' and entering new information into the Name, Vendor Name, and Trap Identifier fields. The User can also navigate between multiple records, clear the current record, or delete. All of these features are better described in the Getting Started section of the Wiki.

1. Click the Edit button.
2. The Manage SNMP Events form will open.
   
3. Modify the information that needs editing.
4. Click Save

Delete Selected

This will remove the SNMP Event, and will break any Notifications or Escalations that are currently set up using that Event. The Event Description will become grayed out and it will not be possible to modify after the Deletion Event. As a result of this PCR recommends changing all Notifications and Escalations that use the Event before deleting it. If the User is sure they want to go ahead and delete the Event the process is relatively simple.

1. Select the SNMP Event for deletion
   
2. Click the Delete Selected button
3. Confirm the Event should be deleted by clicking the Delete Selected button.
   
4. The event is now removed from PCR-360.

Toggle Status

Deletion is sometimes an extreme option. Rather then deleting an Event, sometimes it is better to simply Toggle the Status. Doing so will stop the Event from triggering a Notification or Escalation.

1. Simply select the SNMP Event you wish to toggle.
   
2. Click the Toggle Status button.
3. The SNMP Event is now toggled to an alternate status.
   

Log

The SNMP Log is a record of all SNMP Traps that PCR-360 is monitoring. This is particularly useful if the User doesn't know what the Trap Identifier is and wishes to trigger an event to record that Trap Identifier.

View

Double-Clicking any trap identifier will bring up the 'Manage SNMP Log'. A user can change the Status of the Trap, however, the rest of the data here is read only. From here an Administrator can copy the Trap Identifier field to create an SNMP Event. Within this dialog an Administrator can view the date and time stamp for the Trap as well as any other critical data associated with that Trap.

Reissue Trap Alert

This will Reissue a given Trap alert. This is useful for Triggering an Event in PCR-360 for Events that were not created when a given Trap was received. For example, a Trap comes into the Log and then the Administrator created an Event for the Trap. If the Administrator wished to test to make sure the Event was triggering correctly, the Administrator only needs to Select the Trap to test and simply click the Reissue Trap Alert button and click yes to confirm.

The Event should fire now, with any related Notifications and Escalations being sent out. It should be noted because this is essentially a test event the Administrator will need to resolve any Notifications and Escalations that trigger as a result according to organizational guidelines.

Add Event for Trap

This is similar functionality as the SNMP Add Event with one small modification. Here the User only needs to select the Trap Identifier before selecting the 'Add Event for Trap' button. The Trap Identifier will auto fill and the Administrator will only need to add an Event Name and the Vendor Name.

Ignore Trap

Clicking the Ignore Trap will flag a Trap to be Ignored permanently. Any future Traps from that source will no longer be added to the SNMP Log.

Ignore

This is a listing of all ignored SNMP Trap Identifiers. Any Traps that are listed here will not be recorded in the SNMP Log. This is useful to blacklist Traps that the Admin does not wish to receive on an on going basis.

Add

1. Click the Add button.
2. Enter the Trap Identifier.
   
3. Click Save New.

Edit Selected

1. Click the Edit Selected button
2. The Manage SNMP Dialog will open.
   
3. Modify the Trap Identifier field.
4. Click the Save button

Delete Selected

This will remove a Trap Identifier from the Ignore list. This will allow PCR-360 to resume tracking of that Trap. Simply select the Ignored Trap that is desired to be tracked. Click the 'Delete Selected' button and the event will now be tracked in the SNMP Log again.
