Cable Access Points

Access Points are physical locations where people can access a Cable. By adding and defining numerous Access Points, an organization knows exactly where they need to go if they are required to perform maintenance on a Cable.

For a PCR-360 User, setting up and managing Access Points is a virtually identical process to that outlined in the Cable article, Conduits.

Adding an Access Point

Navigate to the Cable Access Points grid. Main > Cable > Access Points

To add a new access point to the Cable Access Points Grid, click the 'Add' button on the Grid Toolbar above the Grid. This opens an Access Point data entry form.

At this point, the User can fill the data fields appropriately (Note: as was the case in the Cable Conduit section, Adding a Conduit, only 'Name' and 'Access Point Type' are required fields). Options include 'Location' and 'Description'.

Users can also add associated Conduits and Cables to the new Access Point via the tabs in the data entry form. In both instances, Users can add either 'New' or 'Existing' Conduits and Cables by clicking either button, located on the Grid Toolbar above the Grid in each tab.

Once the User has satisfactorily defined the parameters of the new conduit, click 'Save New'. After the new conduit is saved, it appears on the original Cable Access Points Grid.

Editing an Access Point

Users can edit an existing Access Point by double-clicking on the Access Point item in the Cable Access Points Grid.

This opens an Access Point data entry form that displays identical data fields to those discussed in the Adding an Access Point section. Complete all required fields and click 'Save' to make changes permanent.

Deleting an Access Point

To delete one or more existing Access Points, highlight each item to be removed and click the Delete Selected button on the Grid Toolbar above the Cable Access Points Grid.

Conduit

The 'Conduit' tab allows the User to associate Conduit with an Access Point. The User can 'Add' a new Conduit from this tab or 'Add Existing' Conduit from the Conduits grid.

Add

  1. Click the Add button.
  2. This opens the 'Add New Conduit' form.
  3. Enter the 'Name' and 'Conduit Type' required fields.
  4. Enter additional information into the fields if desired.
  5. Click the 'Save New' button.

The Conduit is added to the 'Access Point' as well as the Conduits Grid. When Conduit is deleted from the Access Point Grid, the Conduit will remain on the Conduits Grid since there is only an association record on the Access Point Grid.

Add Existing

  1. Click the Add Existing button.
  2. This opens the 'Existing Conduits' form.
  3. Select the Conduit(s) desired.
  4. Click the 'Save and Close' button.

The Conduit is added to the 'Access Point' from the Conduits grid. When Conduit is deleted from the Access Point Grid, the Conduit will remain on the Conduits Grid since there is only an association record on the Access Point Grid.

Cables

The 'Cables' tab allows the User to associate Cable with an Access Point. The User can 'Add' a new Cable from this tab or 'Add Existing' Cable(s) from the Cable Maintenance Grid.

Add

  1. Click the Add button.
  2. This opens the 'Add New Cable' form.
  3. Enter the information into the fields if desired.
  4. Click the 'Save New' button.

The Cable is added to the 'Access Point' as well as the Cable Maintenance Grid. When Cable is deleted from the Access Point grid, the Cable remains on the Cable Maintenance Grid since there is only an association record on the Access Point Grid.

Add Existing

  1. Click the Add Existing button.
  2. This opens the 'Existing Cables' form.
  3. Select the Cable(s) desired.
  4. Click the 'Save and Close' button.

The Conduit is added to the 'Access Point' from the Cable Maintenance Grid. When Cable is deleted from the Access Point Grid, the Cable remains on the Cable Maintenance Grid since there is only an association record on the Access Point Grid.
